Oh, woe is me :(

Something terrible happened last night! Are you ready? Okay, here goes. This WAS my soap.

This IS the carpet. I can see it now.

Real estate agent: What the *&@^%*&#^ happened to the carpet?!?!?!
Me: Uhh, funny story actually. It was the lye that actually ate away at it.
Real estate agent: What were you doing with lye?!?!?!??!
Me (sheepishly): Umm, making soap? Hehe...
Real estate agent: ..............................................get out.

Yes, I spilled raw soap on to the carpet. The bottom of my mould which is removable, popped off when I was adjusting it to get a better picture. I managed to spill HALF of my soap on to the carpet. Everything happened so quickly after that. My first thought was to get the soap off the carpet and it took me a few rounds of running back and forth from the closet to the kitchen. In my hurry, I didn't wear gloves as I took them off after I poured the soap into the mould. My hands were burning and so was the carpet. I looked at it closely and noticed weird dark patches. Then I scrubbed at it and a clump of carpet came off in my hands! Dan rushed to get the vinegar and we dunked more than half a litre on to the carpet. Alas, it couldn't be saved.

Why oh why didn't I cover the floor with newspaper. I didn't even think of it. The kitchen is tiled and I never thought I'd spill anything out of the kitchen. I'm so stupid :(. Well, lesson learned the hard way :(. I had thought of not posting up the picture of the carpet because it's sort of painful to look at but I think I need to make sure others don't make the same mistake as me. I still had some left over in the mould which I tried to save and will unmould tomorrow.

I think it's time to get a new mould and also time to wise up.

So sorry about your rug, your hands and your early catapult our of your apt. But I have to say, the bottom photo of your soap looks really beautiful. Love the blue.

Oh No! Your poor soap! hehe. Well your soap still looks fantastic! But too bad it's not the same for the carpet!

So sorry to hear about your soap! Hope your hands are ok and that it isn't too terribly expensive to fix the carpet.

Heather: Thank you for that :). Suprisingly my real estate agent wasn't surprised at all when I said I wrecked the carpet (negated to mention the lye).

Ms In-Between: Thank you for your kind words. That's so sweet :). My hands are back to normal now and I haven't found out the cost of fixing the carpet but I don't think it'll be too bad!

I really really really appreciate this post!!!! We are moving to a new home Monday and my soap kitchen will be in the basement (as it is now) but the new basement is full carpet (now it is tiled). I didn't even think about spills. Your post, I have no doubt, saved me from any future problems of lye/soap on carpet. Thank you. I'm so sorry this happened to you, I can only imagine how upset about the carpet and lost soap you must be.

I am sorry to hear about your accident with the soap. I do agree that it looks really lovely - even after the fall!

If it makes you feel any better, I have scratches on my wood trim in the apartment from my cats. I've already written off my security deposit.

Michelle: Thank you hehe. I'm glad I saved you from any future mishaps! Don't forget about lining the floor with newspapers :).

Gigi: Thanks! That's true. At least the carpet can't feel pain!

Kim: Thank you! Oh, I'm sorry to hear that :(. I have cats at home too back in Malaysia.

Oh that totally sucks. I've spilled fresh soap all over my newly installed kitchen cabinets before and the soap eats that away too. =(

Maybe a lovely table over the top of the rug or a beautifully detailed throw rug to hide the spot?

I'm currently covering it up with some cardboard boxes as the spot is in the storage room but I'll have to replace it!
